Deacon Team Ministries
Deacon Team Ministry Plan
GOAL: To create a structure which encourages those persons called to be Deacons of RHBC, and others who make RHBC their home, to become fully devoted followers of Christ
STRATEGY: To create small, challenged Deacon Ministry Teams which take focused approaches toward effectively addressing some of the specific human and spiritual needs which are a part of the lives of RHBC’s staff, members, visitors and friends. Deacons are encouraged to solicit members of the church family to help in the implementation of these ministries.
DEACON MINISTRY TEAMS
Name: HOMEBOUND MINISTRY TEAM
Focus: Persons confined to their homes--whether they make their homes in private dwellings, retirement communities or nursing centers--are contacted by personal visitation, phone calls and in writing. Communion is scheduled and taken to them as a part of the mission of this ministry team. The team leader is the RHBC Coordinator of Homebound Ministries.
Message: “You remain an important part of our lives.”
Name: CELEBRATION/STAFF SUPPORT MINISTRY TEAM
Focus: Persons within the church family who experience something for which we can join in celebration and thanksgiving are recognized by this team. Events include birthdays, wedding anniversaries, baptisms, graduations, etc. In addition, these team members are a network of encouragement, empowerment, and support to persons serving as full or part-time staff members and their families. Historically, this team makes morning announcements during a worship service, planned in advisement with the pastor, to recognize staff members' anniversary dates, etc.
Message: “We rejoice with you!”
Name: HOSPITAL VISITATION MINISTRY TEAM
Focus: Persons who are affected by hospitalization are visited/contacted by members of this ministry team. This is a ministry of visitation for those in the hospital short or long-term.
Message: “You are not alone or forgotten in this time of crisis and healing.”
Name: BEREAVEMENT and CASSEROLE MINISTRY TEAM
Focus: Persons affected by the death of a loved one benefit from this ministry team through visitation to the home, funeral home, funeral service, staying at the home during the funeral, etc. Team members also offer assistance by providing some care items in this time of need through a bereavement bag (coffee pot, paper supplies, etc.). Also, this team focuses on persons affected by a time of crisis and/or upheaval of their "normal" schedule by providing a ministry of food for those dealing with other issues in their lives. Food is provided in several ways and delivered (i.e., home cooked, purchased, gift certificate, money donated).
Message: “You are not alone in the shadow of your loss or crisis,
we walk with you.”
Name: CONNECTIONS MINISTRY TEAM
Focus: Persons who have visited recently or chosen RHBC as their church home receive follow-up contact through phone calls, cards, visits, etc. in a concerted effort to help visitors (future members) and/or new members to engage and become connected with the life of the church. (This is a church-wide team with which Deacons assist in carrying out the vision and mission of RHBC.)
Message: "Welcome. Come in and let's get acquainted."
Name: PRAYER MINISTRY TEAM
Focus: Persons whose personal needs call out for intercessory prayer. This is a ministry of sending prayer cards from the church and personal notes of encouragement.
Message: “Today I spoke with God about your need.”
Name: SMALL JOBS MINISTRY TEAM
Focus: Persons who need God’s hands and feet (and occasionally His back, too) applied to their lives in a tangible way receive aid from the members of this team.
Message: “Please, let us help you with that task.”
Name: TRANSPORTATION MINISTRY TEAM
Focus: Persons who cannot provide their own transportation to and from our services and special events, including those needing assistance getting elsewhere (doctor, grocery store, etc.), receive transportation from this team via church vehicles (or in special circumstances, in personal vehicles).
Message: "Having you as a part of our church life is very important to us. Let us help get you to RHBC and other places important in your life."
