Fellowship of Deacons
The Fellowship of Deacons at RHBC is a group of members, selected by the congregation, that assist in carrying out the mission of Rosalind Hills. Each Deacon is selected by the congregation to serve a two-year term.
Our Deacons have
accepted the challenge
to work towards church growth at RHBC!
that to grow
WE MUST GO
to the people
in our families,
circle of friends,
Meet our Deacons:
Jason Bishop 2019 (ending year of two-year term)
My family and I have been members of Rosalind Hills since 2011. I was born and raised in West Virginia, relocated to Roanoke in 2001 and currently work in HR at Carilion Clinic. My wife, Courtnee, is involved in our children's music program at Rosalind Hills, and I facilitate a "Faith in Film" class on Wednesday nights. Our girls (Abby, 10, and Claire, 7) both enjoy music and horseback riding. Our family feels blessed to call Rosalind Hills our church home.
Joe and Sandra Blackstock 2020
"I have enjoyed the practice of Optometry for many years with the opportunity to help people. I will admit we both enjoy retirement more. Because I love helping people, I have enjoyed working in the prayer room getting to know folks and their problems. Through prayer and advice, people walk away with a better understanding of what God can do for them. Sandra and I enjoy visiting folks in the hospital and hopefully cheering them up a little. We both love to entertain, and Sandra loves to cook and is very good at it. Because of this Sandra loves cooking for the casserole/bereavement team. Sandra loves to grow flowers in the summer and loves decorating our house. She also loves decorating the church on the decorating team."
Ed Blevins 2019
I'm proudly married to Sharon Blevins, my high school sweetheart, for 52 years with one son, one daughter, and one grandson. Sharon and I have been members of RHBC for over 7 years.
I started earning money by cutting wood using a crosscut saw with a buddy at age nine, which led eventually to retiring at age 70 from three different careers over my more than 50 years of working--always serving people. Also, I attended Radford University and received my Bachelor's degree in psychology with distinction at age 54.
My activities include: reading my Holy Bible daily, working for the Lord as the need becomes evident and exercising through activities at the YMCA and/or walking daily. I shoot team billiards in Christiansburg every Fall, but my favorite hobby is with my son. We have been season ticket holders to Virginia Tech football home games for over 15 years. In addition, my wife and I have traveled extensively.
I've been a Christian for many years and was proudly selected as a deacon for RHBC in 2017. I gladly agreed to extend my service through 2019 when requested. In addition, I am also a greeter and have worked in the food pantry for years. I am/was on various church teams to assist in Rosalind Hills' endeavor in meeting our Christian and ministry goals for The Lord, always willing to serve as needed.

Debbie Dalton 2019
My name is Debbie Dalton. I have been a member of RHBC since 1994. I have and continue to serve God in my church and community in a number of ways. I am a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. I enjoy attending plays, spending time at the beach or in the mountains.
Ross Ferguson, Chairman 2020
I work currently in the ophthalmology/optometry consulting industry and have been in the general industry for about 25 years. My plan is to retire at the end of 2019, which is very exciting to me. I was honored to be chosen a Deacon last year and further honored to be chosen as the Chairman for 2018. My number one goal is to grow our church and, by that, the Christian community in Roanoke.
I was born into the church and have never left. I was baptized in 1963 in the chapel by Rev. Bill Marshall. The second pastor of the church, Dr. Alan Neely, administered my wedding. Both of my parents were very active at Rosalind Hills. My dad was the choir director off and on for many, many years. My mom was the church pianist for 40 years. Both are now finding their glory in heaven.
I am now single and the dad of 3 wonderful daughters, Sarah, Kathryn, and Olivia. I have begun a new hobby in the past month...Crossfit...and I love it. It's fun to be the oldest person at the gym but so far, I'm holding my own. My main hobby is music. Along with Brian Hancock (Music Minister), Marcel LeHardy (my brother-in-law) and Nancy LeHardy (my sister), we have a band that is a lot of fun. We have played at church on occasion, but our main focus is 60's/70's music.
Go to Grow!!
Brenda French 2018
I have been a member of Rosalind Hills for 18 years. My husband and I joined in April, 2000. I was a Medical Transcriptionist for all of my working days and have been retired since 2014. I have been a widow since my husband's passing December 20, 2015.
I was honored in January, 2004, when I was ordained as a deacon. My main focus over the years since has been the Bereavement/Casserole Team and the Homebound Team. I have found these teams to be as much a blessing to me as to the people that the teams have served. I have also enjoyed being a part of the Decorating Team over the years, working with other members to prepare our church for special occasions.
Rosalind Hills has given me a Place to Belong and a Place where I am still Becoming!

Cindy and Hoppy Peoples 2018
I am very privileged to be a deacon at RHBC although I fall so short of what I need to do as a deacon. I have always worked in a customer service type position, from receptionist to travel agent. I love people and enjoy working with the public. I guess that is why I enjoy working in the Food Pantry and the Clothes Closet at RHBC. Hoppy and I both enjoy visiting the hospitals or nursing homes.
I enjoy reading and baking in my spare time and love music. I will soon celebrate forty years of marriage to Hoppy. I have a handsome son and beautiful daughter, a hard-working son-in-law, and two wonderful grandsons--one 12 years old, one 4 years old. I never imagined how wonderful it could be to be called Nana. It's the best job I've ever had.
I am so grateful to RHBC for your patience, love and prayers.
He's Still Workin' on Me.
