Cathy Harris, Minister of Children
Education: BS in Early Childhood Education from Radford University; teaching experience at Grandin Court Elementary and Floyd Elementary schools.
Cathy brings a wealth of experience in working with families and children. She has a variety of professional experience to her credit from working in the local school system as a teacher, substitute teacher and teaching assistant. In addition, she was the Children's Leader for a local chapter of Bible Study Fellowship. Church work is no stranger to Cathy as she has been a Sunday school teacher for 2 and 3 year olds, Kindergarten, and first and second graders. She rounds out her experience by having been Vacation Bible School Director, teacher, and worker. Perhaps that which enables Cathy to have valuable insight is that she is the mother of three boys: John, born in 1990, Andrew, born in 1991, and David, born in 1995.
Cathy is the daughter of a Navy officer which took their family from Iceland to the Philippines to all over the United States during her growing up years. After settling in Roanoke and attending Radford University, she met and married Nelson Harris who serves as Pastor of a local congregation.
Cathy began her ministry with RHBC for the first time as part-time Minister to Children for approximately a year in 1998. Her husband accepted a call to the pastorate of a local church and Cathy followed in support of him and her family. Since that time, her boys have reached an age where she felt free to accept a call back into full time Christian ministry. She began as full time Minister of Children with RHBC in March 2006. Her duties include being responsible for the development, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive early childhood program for children and families.
Cathy enjoys being a mom and attending all kinds of sports activities in support of her sons. She also enjoys walking, scrapbooking and traveling.
